A Win is a Win: USCIS Removes Biometrics Requirement and $85 Fee for Nonimmigrant Visa Changes and Extensions

Great news this week for temporary visa holders who plan to apply for a change or extension of their nonimmigrant visa status. USCIS announced that beginning October 1, 2023, Applicants of Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status, will no longer be required to submit a second set of biometric data (photo, fingerprints, electronic signature), nor the associated $85 USCIS Filing Fee any longer. Any reduction of fees is a success story when it comes to USCIS; however, it is unclear why they have just recently arrived at this decision to waive the I-864.
